QCUSD Governing Board Calls for Bond & Override Election

Queen Creek, Ariz.- The Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) Governing Board is calling on voters to decide two ballot measures this November to support the needs of the rapidly-growing population of the district. Queen Creek is the seventh fastest-growing city in the nation and the fastest-growing school district in the state.

Voters will consider a bond of $98M for projects over the next five years to fund enhanced safety and security features, renovations to existing schools, construction of new classroom space, and other improvements to address the needs of the growing community.

In addition to the bond, voters will decide on whether to continue the current 15% maintenance and operations budget override used for teacher salaries, low class sizes, and ongoing operational expenses.

"We don't get our full budget from the state; we get a portion of it," said QCUSD Board President Jennifer Revolt. "That's the beautiful thing about local control. If you feel like your district is doing a good job and if you feel like you should support your district, you get to see exactly where that money goes. You get to be a part of making that decision."

Queen Creek Unified School District is located in the town of Queen Creek and part of southeast Mesa. The growing district includes nine elementary schools, two junior high schools, and three high schools with an enrollment of more than 14,000 students. Voters will decide on the two ballot measures during the general election November 7.
